Mass gainer or whey protein: which one do you need?
Both are shakes, but they solve different problems. Here's how to choose.

Walk into any supplement shop and you'll see two big tubs side by side: whey protein and mass gainer. They look similar, but they do different jobs.
Whey protein: for hitting your protein target
A scoop of whey gives you roughly 24–25 g of protein with very few calories. It suits you if you:
- eat enough food overall, but struggle to reach your daily protein,
- want to build muscle without gaining much fat, or
- are cutting and need protein without extra calories.
Mass gainer: for eating enough calories
A gainer packs hundreds of calories per serving, mostly from carbohydrates, plus a good amount of protein. It suits you if you:
- are naturally skinny and find it hard to gain weight,
- have a fast metabolism or a physical job, or
- simply can't eat large meals.
A simple rule of thumb
If the scale isn't moving even though you train hard and eat what feels like a lot, a mass gainer helps. If your weight is fine but you want more muscle, choose whey protein.
Whichever you pick, it's a supplement to real food, not a replacement for it. Not sure? Message us on WhatsApp and we'll help you choose.
